THE WAR SPEECHES

Seven individual speech compilation volumes were published yearly in the U.K. and the U.S., beginning in 1941, under the following titles: Into Battle (1938-1940 speeches) [published in the U.S. as Blood, Sweat and Tears]; The Unrelenting Struggle (1940-1941);The End of the Beginning (1942); Onwards to Victory (1943); The Dawn of Liberation (1944); Victory (1945); and Secret Session Speeches (Various Dates). Unlike the English editions, which were all published by one publisher, Cassell, the American series was initiated by G.P. Putnam with BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS, then carried on by Little, Brown up till the final volume, SECRET SESSION SPEECHES, which was published by Simon and Schuster.

Description: This is a spectacular set of First English editions, all First State/First Printings, in the increasingly scarce original dust jackets, each of which is virtually mint. The contents are virtually mint as well; crisp, unfoxed and seemingly unopened. Bibliographically, INTO BATTLE is the Second State of the First Edition (per Cohen, with the numerals present on Page 78. THE UNRELENTING STRUGGLE is First State, with the problematically printed numerals on Page 281, as per Cohen. VICTORY is Second State, with the numeral 1 present on Page 177, as per Cohen. SECRET SESSIONS SPEECHES dust jacket is very faintly tanned Laid-into the book is a presentation card: "WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF Winston S. Churchill," along with the rarely seen Errata card for this final volume. As fine a set as we have ever seen.

Please Note: This is a weighty item and does not qualify for free shipping.
